I don’t usually post stories like this but since there are direct quotes from the guy in question, I figured there is at least some weight to it. Maybe Mischa will clarify on her blog.

Mischa Barton dating Luke Pritchard from The Kooks

Get ready to see more of Mischa Barton. I can reveal the OC actress has bagged herself a British rock star boyfriend – Luke Pritchard from The Kooks. My spies spotted the 22-year-old actress on a date with the indie singer in a small boozer in North London. The couple must have thought nobody was watching as they cuddled and kissed on a leather banquette at the Old Queens Head, a traditional pub in Islington.

They were at a special Christmas bash for trendy DJ collective Oh, Inverted World. And boosted by the festive cheer, the usually uptight Mischa really let herself go, clapping and cheering loudly when Luke, 23, below, got up on stage to do a surprise solo acoustic session.

So I spoke to the Kooks frontman at the band’s post-Brixton Academy gig party the following night and found that the feeling was mutual.

A gushing Luke, whose band’s album Konk went straight to number one when it was released back in April, confided to me: “It’s early days yet but, yes, we are seeing each other. “I’m very lucky. She’s beautiful, so I feel lucky she decided to go out with someone like me. It came about because we have lots of friends in common and kept going to the same parties.” I was surprised Mischa wasn’t at the gigs in Brixton though, but Luke told me: “She is in LA. She has work to do.”

But now the band’s tour is over, Luke revealed: “I plan to enjoy myself and hopefully see more of Mischa.” Both have had a string of high-profile romances. Luke’s ex’s include TV presenter Fearne Cotton and singer Katie Melua.

Mischa has dated Taylor Locke, guitarist in American band Rooney, and Whitestarr’s Cisco Adler.

Nothing specific to post about today but here are a couple of random things floating around in the media currently:

  • First up, Mischa’s blog has been updated with a few different things including the smackdown of a rumour from InTouch Magazine.
  • Rumours are circulating that Mischa has been approached for a guest-starring role on Ugly Betty. The rumour initially started with Star magazine so don’t put too much stock in this.
  • Mischa’s nude scene in Closing the Ring has been named the Best Nude Scene of the Year by MrSkin.com. This news was actually published in nearly all of Australia’s leading newspapers earlier this week and as a result, Australia’s biggest online DVD retailer has now sold out of Closing the Ring! Evidently sex really does sell.
  • Shantel VanSanten (Mischa’s co-star in You and I) was briefly interviewed recently and had this to say about Mischa: “Working with Mischa Barton was a pleasure. We both gained so much from working one another. As far as the content of the movie goes our characters ARE two girls who fall in love with each other and become romantically involved.” For the full interview, click here.
  • Finally, it looks like Mischa’s low-budget pshychological thriller Walled In is heading straight to DVD. Fangoria Online has the street date set for February 24th, 2009. Thanks to Marie for this tip. On a personal note, I wish Mischa would work on some studio movies as all these independent films keep getting shelved. :(

It seems that Times Online from the UK has leaked news that Mischa will apparently be the new face of Herbal Essences from January 2009.

“While the LA babe Mischa Barton confessed at a Herbal Essences event (she is the new face of the brand from January) that her only beauty disasters had come courtesy of “fake tanners — I hate the stuff!”

We obviously won’t know if this is complete truth or how large her role will be until an official press announcement is released but nevertheless this is extremely exciting news! Thanks to Maz for the tip.

Actress turned handbag designer Mischa Barton tells Laura Jackson about her inspirations and love of vintage shopping.

How did Mischa Barton handbags come about?
I was approached by a manufacturer in Hong Kong who was keen to work with me, and I was attracted to the fact that they would let me design under my own name. The team was very open-minded, and let me be as funky or classic as I wanted with my designs. At the moment the collection is just available in the UK and Republic of Ireland and I like the exclusivity of that. Spring 09 is the second season I have designed for, and I feel people have more confidence in what I do now.


What can we expect from the brand for spring 09?
There are more wallets and purses this season and I’ve been working on improving the clasps. There are more studs and metalwork, which are inspired by catwalk designs. One of my favourite designs is a classic black handbag with an embossed logo. I like understated pieces.

Where do you get your inspiration?
I collaborate with other people when we are choosing fabrics and designs, so it is quite a back and forth process, but my input comes from the vintage and classic bags I own, and translating that into something modern and affordable. In terms of the brand’s flower logo, that was something I came up with when I was doodling. I think it’s quite 1970s, a bit Biba, and it shows the bag is a Mischa Barton bag without me having my name splashed all over it.

Photos of a seriously stunning Mischa at the Grand Opening of Atlantis, The Palm Resort, Dubai (United Arab Emirates) have been uploaded. So far only a handful of shots are up but more will be added shortly. The following is an extract about the event with guests including Oprah Winfrey, Charlize Theron and Denzel Washington:

The Atlantis Hotel’s exclusive opening party on Thursday evening is set to break records as the world’s most exclusive private party and will feature singer Kylie Minogue. The one-night celebration is due to bring the world’s first man-made palm island to a complete standstill as the VIP guests are chauffeur-driven to the venue. Palm residents have even been urged to return to villas and apartments by 2pm to avoid being denied entry to their homes.

At a cost of $20million (Dh73 million) the lavish party will play host to around 2,500 celebrity and royal guests and a number of VIPs from the UAE. Created by Grucci, the company responsible for the fireworks display at the opening ceremony of this year’s Olympic Games in Beijing, the Atlantis display will be visible from space and will feature giant flowers, palm trees and meteors in the UAE national colours. More than 200 pyrotechnics experts have been working on the project for more than 3,000 hours, which will see rockets launched from 716 individual spots.

To put the display into perspective, 100,000 specially-designed pyrotechnic devices will be fired in comparison to 30,000 at the Beijing Olympics — meaning the show will be just over three times bigger.

Kylie Minogue is lacing up ahead of one of the biggest paydays of her career as she becomes an Arabian princess tonight.
The Australian chart-topper finally settled on £1.3million ($2million) to entertain Arab royalty and celebrity friends at the grand opening of Atlantis The Palm, Dubai.

Her 2,000 guests are set to include Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson, Mischa Barton, Gerrard Butler, Robert De Niro, Charlize Theron, Agyness Deyn and Lily Allen, who will all be flown out at the cost of £5,000 a head for the £16million party.

The partygoers will be treated to a lavish dinner that starts at 9.30pm before Kylie bursts on to the stage from the front of the 1,500-room complex just before midnight.

Diane Kruger, Mischa Barton, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Billy Idol have joined the team of famous ambassadors. All have been photographed for the cause by Bryan Adams, the initiative’s official photographer, in the Hear the World pose – with a hand behind one ear, symbolising conscious hearing. The goal of their participation is to raise awareness about the issue of hearing and hearing loss.

The Hear the World magazine utilizes a culture and lifestyle platform to address the topic of hearing. Always linking content to the subject of hearing and sound, the magazine’s features focus on a broad range of topics, from music, to art, nature, and everything else that makes life more beautiful. The magazine is supported by the global Hear the World initiative, which is dedicated to raising awareness about hearing.

A team at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore estimated that 55 million Americans have hearing loss in one or both ears. One out of six, or 29 million adults, have some trouble discerning speech, more than previous estimates, they reported in the Archives of Internal Medicine.

Current ambassadors for Hear the World include Plácido Domingo, Joss Stone, Mick Jagger, Amy Winehouse, Harry Belafonte and Annie Lennox, among others.
