A little thriller was shooting under the radar until a local Pittburgh paper broke the news today.

Michael Clarke Duncan, Devon Sawa and Mischa Barton are starring in Sibling for director Matt Orlando.

Producer Brian Hartman is keeping the plot under wraps, it seems, as all he told the paper is that the film is a “whodunit.” The narrative is set at a school, however, where Duncan plays the principal and Mischa Barton is the guidance counselor. Really? The school sounds like a friggin’ party. Sawa is apparently playing a cop.

Filming is expected to wrap by Christmas and we’ll see Sibling sometime next year.

Wilkinsburg native producing star-studded ‘Sibling’ in Pittsburgh

With three Pittsburgh films currently in theaters, a sibling rivalry could be forming.

“Sibling,” a horror movie being filmed almost exclusively at the former Knoxville Middle School, started shooting last week. It stars Michael Clarke Duncan (“The Island,” “Planet of the Apes,” “The Green Mile”), Mischa Barton (“The O.C.” television series, “The Sixth Sense”) and Devon Sawa (“Nikita” television series, “Final Destination”).

Duncan, who arrived Monday in Pittsburgh, plays a principal. Barton is a guidance counselor, and Sawa is a local police officer. They both arrived last week. “It’s sort of a whodunit,” said producer Brian Hartman, a Wilkinsburg native who moved back to Pittsburgh to make films after working in Los Angeles.

“Sibling” is Hartman’s 10th producer credit and third project to be shot in the area in the past year. The others were “Riddle,” starring Val Kilmer and directed by local filmmakers Nick Mross and John Hartman, and “Mafia,” with Ving Rhames and Pam Grier. Both of those films are expected to be released next year, the same as “Sibling,” Brian Hartman said. Directing “Sibling” is Matt Orlando. Joining Hartman as producers are Phillip Glasser and Aaron Levin. Amanda McBride is co-producer.

Hartman came back to Pittsburgh to make “The Bridge to Nowhere” in 2008, because he thought the script fit the city. Pittsburgh’s film industry has boomed recently, with recent major motion picture releases such as “Unstoppable,” “The Next Three Days” and “Love & Other Drugs.” “I came back when it started to get busy here,” said Hartman, 43, of Collier. “Now, it’s like a dream come true.” Pittsburgh offers things that make filmmaking easy, including a film-friendly environment and an existing film-crew infrastructure, Hartman said.

And projects such as “Sibling” help sustain the local film industry, said Dawn Keezer, executive director of the Pittsburgh Film Office. “All film projects are important to the local film industry,” Keezer said. “It keeps everyone working and helps to train the newer members of our film crew.” And that is good news for Pittsburgh Filmmakers/Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, said executive director Charlie Humphrey.

“First, it means jobs for students, faculty and members,” he said, “and second, it raises awareness about filmmaking as an art form.” Soon to join “Sibling” will be the production of “Locke and Key,” a Fox television pilot to start filming early next year.

“Silbing” will wrap filming around Christmas, with about 20 shooting days total, Hartman said.

The producers plan to sell the movie in May at France’s Cannes International Film Festival.

Ryan Phillippe joins Bruce Willis in Grand Rapids for ‘SetUp’

The cast of the 50 Cent/ Bruce Willis movie, SetUp, which is currently filming in Grand Rapids, MI, is growing quickly.

Today, MLive confirmed the news that WSNX broke this morning: Ryan Phillippe has joined the movie and is already in town to shoot his scenes.

The movie is also expected to add Jerry Ferrara (who plays ‘Turtle’ on Entourage), Ambyr Childress, and Will Yun Lee to its cast.

WSNX’s tipster also mentioned that The O.C.’s Mischa Barton had joined the movie (which we would love to see) but we haven’t been able to confirm her involvement. Not to mention, the last we heard she was busy with her new reality show.

It’s finally time for Mischa’s appearance on Chris Moyles’ Quiz Night in the UK. Her episode will screen on Monday, December 6th at 10pm on Channel 4. I hope to have media coverage up on the site shortly after.

Alan Carr, Mischa Barton and Rupert Everett enter into battle with Chris taking part in all rounds of the quiz and face a specialist question in an area of their own expertise in the hope of securing a place in the grand final and a top spot on the series leader board.

Also, excerpts from Mischa’s Tatler magazine spread (which is due on sale Dec 2nd) have appeared online. Check out a couple of them below:

Great news! 😀 Mischa appears on the cover of Tatler magazine for January 2011. The cover is stunning and by the looks of it, the rest of the shoot is just as awesome.

And here are the two released preview photos:

Apartment 1303, the American remake of the Japanese ghost film, is one of the horror flicks making a splash at this year’s American Film Market. Now, a very reliable source is telling us that actors Mischa Barton and Rebecca De Mornay are rumored to have signed on to the film.

Our souce is also telling us that the remake might begin shooting in Detroit early next year.

As we reported yesterday, Apartment 1303 revolves around a rental unit that has the distinction of driving young women to suicide.  The director behind the project is Daniel Friedell. And the film is expected to shoot in 3D.

I’m personally happy to hear about this one so hopefully it turns out to be true. Shooting in 3D basically guarantees wide theatrical release which is something Mischa has had a lot of bad luck achieving with the indies she’s filmed.

Mischa Barton says her boyfriend Ali Love is a “real sweetheart”.

The 24-year-old actress has been dating the British DJ since early summer, and their relationship appears to be going from strength to strength.

Mischa loves spending time with Ali because he treats her so well, and she admits it must be hard for him to cope with her enormous fame. Luckily Ali is very laidback, so Mischa says he deals with attention from the public well, teasing that she probably wouldn’t be as understanding were she in his shoes.

“He’s amazing, such a sweetheart. I really do feel for him with the paparazzi. I feel for anyone who wants to hang out with me or date me – I’m not sure that I would! Ali’s such a cool guy,” she gushed in an interview with the British edition of OK! magazine.

Mischa has dated a string of handsome stars in the past, such as model Jamie Dornan and musician Cisco Adler. The pretty actress was also in a relationship with Luke Pritchard from British rock band Kooks for one year, although they split in 2009.

Mischa Barton has exclusively told OK! that she is furious about how she was portrayed in Fearne Cotton’s documentary.

Troubled star Mischa Barton was followed around by Fearne Cotton a camera crew in show that delved into the young star’s life.

However, the 24-year-old has hit back explaining that she felt wrongly portrayed in the documentary.

Mischa said: “I think Fearne Cotton’s show is a joke and she’s a joke. I can’t hear Fearne’s name without seeing red.

“I wish I hadn’t done it and that’s bad because there are enough misconceptions about me in the press. She’s got nothing to lose if she makes a more salacious story, she’s only got everything to gain.

“I just find her messed up to be honest.”

During the programme there was a point where Mischa kept Fearne waiting around outside her home.

Mischa says: “Fearne never let on that she was irritated about waiting. She acts like everything’s so great and she loves you and they cut it together and make it seem like it was a terribly painful experience for them.

“I don’t want to start a feud with her, it’s not worth it to me. She likes the fame, it doesn’t affect her like it affects the people she’s documenting.”

She added: ‘I cried my eyes out when I first saw it because I was like: ‘Are you kidding me? This is the way you want to portray me? I’ve let you into my life.”

Mischa Barton has opened up about her “tumultuous year” being diagnosed with depression and suffering a “pretty reasonable breakdown”.

The 24-year-old actress is best known for her role playing Marissa Cooper in the defunct American television series The O.C., although she hit the headlines last year when she checked into a psychiatric hospital.

Mischa feels in a far better place mentally now, and is happily dating British deejay Ali Love and looking forward to new career opportunities, saying she has put the pain of 2009 behind her.

“That was a tumultuous year. It was one thing after another and it lead to a pretty reasonable breakdown,” she confided to the British edition of OK! magazine.

“I suffer from depression and that’s the truth. I’ve never told anybody that.”

Mischa does accept she can be kooky sometimes, but explains that is no reflection of her mental health and is just her unique personality.

The beautiful star now feels in control of her emotions, and says she uses the arts to express her feelings. She also insists she’s usually very happy and has a fantastic sense of humour.

“I am by no means mentally unstable. Well I am pretty crazy and weird sometimes, but not mentally unstable,” she explained.

“I balance [depression] with positive things in my life and that’s why I have my outlets of music and literature…As much as I get down, I’m an upbeat person. People always think of me as kind of a light in a room – I love to make people laugh.”

Mischa Barton has reportedly broken up with her British DJ boyfriend Ali Love and returned to live full-time in Los Angeles.

Mischa Barton has split from her boyfriend DJ Ali Love, it has been claimed. The 24-year-old actress is reported to have moved back to Los Angeles from London due to their break-up, which was caused by the media scrutiny the couple faced.

A friend told heat magazine: “He wasn’t ready to be a celebrity. He was expecting they’d get some attention, but he never imagined it would be as bad as it was. “He values his privacy and couldn’t deal with photographers following them around or the nasty comments people would make on blogs. So he finally told Mischa it would be better if they stopped dating.” However, the former ‘O.C.’ star is believed to be keen to win him back, and the pair have not ruled out reconciling in the future.

The pal added: “She’s trying to forget about him and move on, but they might give it another go. “Mischa has always had on-off relationships. But she’s not reaching out to him at this stage.” The couple had only been together for a short while, only going public with their romance in July when they were seen together at the Lovebox festival, held in east London. A source said: “Mischa was looking pretty merry in a bedraggled short flowery dress and white bow. She and Ali were all over each other backstage, and kept popping off to the toilets – presumably for a cheeky kiss. “They just returned from a break in the South of France and things are obviously going really well.”
