This is the movie that kind of took us by surprise when Mischa’s involvement was unexpectedly announced by a French website. Following the original news story, we got very little additional information other than a casting call. Well, thanks to Twitter, here are a couple of tweets confirming the start date of the movie. Which is today.

The first is courtesy actress Melinda Cohen who will star in the movie alongside Mischa (and apparently ex-90210 star Ryan Eggold)

Just booked the supporting lead in a feature film starring Mischa Barton and Ryan Eggold. Table read today, first shoot day tomorrow!

The second tweet is from Christine Holder, one of the producers of the movie.

Leaving NY behind-tomorrow first day on set with Mischa!

The NY Times movie database also lists Leah Pipes as an actress in the movie.

Here is a brief synopsis of the movie.

Story follows Sophia, who is severely depressed after the deaths of both her parents within six months. Convinced that the Afterlife is mere oblivion, and that this life is meaningless, she retreats within herself, only to be drawn out of her depressive funk by an unexpected romance with a man named Adam. After Adam disappears mysteriously into the depths of a haunted apartment building, Sophia vows to pursue him, even if it means walking over the threshold into the realm of death.

And remember not to confuse this title with Into the Darkness, which Mischa is also still currently attached to film alongside Toby Hemingway and John Schneider. Mischa’s been attached to this film for a really long time so it seemed like things were a little DOA. But a casting call recently went out for supporting actors and extras with a submission deadline set for March 2012.

Martin Sheen and Mischa Barton’s ‘Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain’, that was shot partly in the city, may release next year

Ravi Kumar, the director of “Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain” was inspired by “many wonderful books and documentaries” on the Bhopal gas tragedy when he decided to make a feature film on it. In 2009, Kumar got US actors Martin Sheen and Mischa Barton on board for the movie, through which he wanted to tell the story of “corporate greed and the hypocrisy of multinationals in dealing with the third world”. He says it was relatively easy to convince the renowned actors to be part of the project since they responded well to this universal theme.

Kumar shot with Sheen, Barton, Indian actress Tannishtha Chatterjee and several others at that time, and since he had to re-create the 1984 period of Bhopal, he shot the film in Hyderabad and Mumbai on sets and factory locations, and only a few critical scenes were shot in Bhopal. The “life-changing” experience was like a roller coaster ride for the director, who says that three years after the first shot, he is finally reaching the “end of this long journey”.

He told us recently, “We have been invited to some major film festivals where it will be premiered. The release dates will be decided by the distributor all over the world according to their plans.”

However, after the shoot, the director had come under attack from some local NGOs, which claimed that the movie was misrepresenting reality. But ask him about it now, and he says, “For us, there are no issues. The script that they objected to, is not relevant as it was an older version. You have to remember, 95 per cent of the film, crew and cast is Indian, our producer Ravi Walia is Indian… hundreds of them came on board as they believed in the script. Anyone who has seen the rough edit is proud to be associated with this epic and moving story made by Indians.” As far as the delay in the release is concerned (from 2010 to tentatively 2012), he says, “The film has been edited carefully, some scenes re-shot, as this is a historical document and people expect the story to be authentic and genuine. It’s been worthwhile fine-tuning the story as this kind of films have a long shelf life. ”

Right now, the film is with some very senior editors, and music composers from London and LA are working on it, says Kumar. While he does admit that the whole journey of making the movie has been difficult, he adds, “This is not a commercial project, but I’m glad to say that the finished film feels more suited for mainstream audience worldwide, thanks to the universal theme and the US actors playing crucial roles.”

A French website (click to read the story in French) is reporting that Mischa has been cast as protagonist Sophia in a romantic supernatural thriller called I Will Follow You Into the Dark. The film is reportedly due to begin production on January 7th, 2012 in Los Angeles. It will be directed by Mark Robinson (The Levenger Tapes) who also wrote the screenplay. David C. Robinson (Exorcist: The Beginning, Georgia Rule) will produce with Danny Roth, Christine Holder and Mark Holder.

Here is a synopsis:

Story follows Sophia, who is severely depressed after the deaths of both her parents within six months. Convinced that the Afterlife is mere oblivion, and that this life is meaningless, she retreats within herself, only to be drawn out of her depressive funk by an unexpected romance with a man named Adam. After Adam disappears mysteriously into the depths of a haunted apartment building, Sophia vows to pursue him, even if it means walking over the threshold into the realm of death.

I’m currently unable to find any other source to confirm the validity of this story, so as always, take the news with a grain of salt.

I can’t bring myself to even post the cover art (so click the above link to see it). I’ve already had a little rant on Twitter, but I’ll repeat myself here too. It is literally the most disgusting and embarrassing artwork for a movie I’ve ever seen in my life. Whoever is responsible for this piece of shit needs to be fired immediately and never work for any DVD artwork company EVER again. We’ve all seen horrendous photoshop work, but this thing takes the cake. All three of the actors had their heads pasted on the bodies of completely different people. Not only is the result entirely abhorrent, but it is completely unrelated to the look of the characters in the movie. Ridiculous!

Excuse the rant, and maybe you’ll feel I’m overreacting to the max, but it’s a joke. A real life joke and a mess.

The folks behind Mischa’s upcoming Lifetime movie Offline have created a Facebook page and here are the promotional materials that have been added. The film is due to screen sometime in 2012 (I believe during the first part of the year unless that has been pushed).

These are the promotional stills from the movie. You’ll notice that one of the stills is of a painting (used in the movie) from one of Mischa’s real life photoshoots for The Face.

Thirteen years ago, Aiden Ashley’s world was torn apart after an online stalker followed her into the real world and broke into the Ashley family home to claim the object of his desire. The resulting night of terror ended with the murders of both Aiden’s mother and father. The stalker escaped the scene without Aiden seeing his face; he is gone without a trace, an unknown man, a murderer now watching Aiden’s every move.

To escape this danger Aiden spends the next 13 years offline, in therapy and secluded anonymity. She has never had a meaningful relationship but after being convinced by her good friend and art dealer, Winton Cornelis, she has a public art-opening gala. At her opening she meets, Paul Rogers. Paul and Aiden immediately have a connection, and though Aiden is wary of any man’s attention she feels that Paul can be trusted.

Detective James Page continues to work the cold case. He enlists cyber security specialist/hacker Jack Dayton to research Aiden’s life. Jack is considered to be a genius. He soon finds that Aiden’s stalker has not gone away, he is watching, patiently waiting for the right time to act. The ‘unknown man’ follows Aiden daily, lurking in the shadows and mostly hiding in plain sight. He enters her home and installs cameras. He loves watching Aiden from his hi-tech lair; he wants Aiden for himself and has a plan to make that happen.

Winton is found with suspicious financial transactions regarding Aiden’s account; he becomes a “person of interest”. Paul is revealed as having a violent past, then he too becomes a “person of interest”… could one of them be Aiden’s stalker? Why is Detective Page so focused on Aiden’s case? He is still working a cold case after 13 years? Who should Aiden trust in a web of deception where no one may be who they seem?

The ‘unknown man’ becomes more agitated and increasingly desperate, he creates a way to become more prominently inserted into Aiden’s life. He is there in front of her every day but his intensions are invisible to her and everyone around her. The ‘unknown man’ wants Aiden only for himself and will do anything to anyone to have her for keeps… But this time Aiden is no longer a frightened teenage girl; she has a new life and is willing to fight for love, freedom and life itself.

Chris Saul, cinematographer of one of Mischa’s upcoming films, The Misadventures of Ben Banks, has added a bunch of promotional material for the movie on his website. Most significantly is a trailer to showcase the cinematography of the movie (so there is no dialogue) but it does represent the first ever vision we’ve seen of the movie. And if this sample is anything to go by, it’s clear that the film is shot absolutely beautifully. Check out the video below.

I’ve also added captures from the trailer which you can view in the gallery.

Additionally, some extra behind-the-scenes have been added.

And finally, some promotional stills. All thanks to Chris Saul’s website.

As we know, Mischa is currently busy filming Apartment 1303 3D in Canada and for a while it was looking like we weren’t going to get any photos. But the folks over at HollywoodPQ have posted a pic of Mischa at Prince D’Orient restaurant in Montreal.

We’ve been talking about the proposed 3D remake of Apartment 1303 for nearly a year now, and word has finally come that principal photography began on the film in Montreal last week!

Mischa Barton (Homecoming, Walled In, The Sixth Sense), Rebecca De Mornay (Mother’s Day, The Hand That Rocks the Cradle), John Diehl (Stargate, Jurassic Park III), Julianne Michelle (Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps), and Robert Blanche (“Crash,” “Ghost Whisperer”) all star.

This was also confirmed by the MonteCristo International Facebook:

Principal photography has begun for APARTMENT 1303 3D in Montreal! 3D trailer to come soon – Stay tuned!

And a few extra details:

Apartment 1303 3D Currently Shooting In Montreal
Specialized 3D Crew Brought In From Hong Kong

Image Works Entertainment headed by President David Shoshan in association with Monte Cristo International has acquired worldwide rights to the Japanese remake Apartment 1303 3D. The film, which is currently in production in Canada, stars Mischa Barton, Rebecca De Mornay, and Julianne Michelle. Helmed by Swedish director Daniel Fridell, Apartment 1303 3D is based on the hit Japanese horror film of the same name. This modern day ghost story turns a love-hate relationship between mother and daughter into a tale of horror. Remakes of Asian horror films such as The Grudge and The Ring have collectively grossed over $230 million dollars worldwide. Taking advantage of the current trend and the appetite for 3D films from the public, Shosan said, “A specialized 3D film crew is being brought in from Hong Kong. The fact that we are shooting in 3D, audiences across the world will have a real total experience of the senses when it comes to this film.”

A new trailer for You and I co-starring Shantel VanSanten and Anton Yelchin has been added to YouTube via the previously mentioned sales company, Eleven Arts, Inc. We unfortunately still don’t have solid release news (other than Russia, where it’s already available on DVD following a soft theatrical run). Australia was on the cards to be the first English territory with a January 5th release date, but the title has since been removed with no new date. Thanks to TwilightPrincess for the tip!
